Spot the robot dog!

Children at Wood Farm Primary School enjoyed an extraordinary visitor this week when Spot, the robot dog from the Oxford University Institute of Robotics, arrived to demonstrate the future of engineering and artificial intelligence.

Spot was accompanied by Professor Nick Hawes and postgraduate researchers Alex and Charlotte, who introduced pupils from Reception through to Year 6 to the world of robotics. The team showed how engineers use robots to explore dangerous or hard‑to‑reach places — including underground tunnels and deep‑sea environments — and demonstrated Spot’s impressive abilities, such as navigating obstacles and “seeing” in the dark using advanced sensors.
